thunderstorm

We were at the park this morning when what we thought would be a brief
normal thunderstorm turned into a pretty violent and protracted one.
We took shelter in the covered part of a courtyard across the street at an NYU law building
to wait it out. Maddy settled in to sniff the stormy air.

Suddenly there was a really bright bolt of lightening and a simultaneous huge clap of thunder.
Maddy’s look said “What the hell was THAT?” Then she wanted to come up on my lap.

I hugged her and we watched the storm together.

She was still not keen on the explosive thunder. At a break, I carried her home under the umbrella,
with stops at the drugstore and some scaffolding. She was fine as long as she was riding.
