A few days ago, a bare plain wooden cross appeared on Gay Street, padlocked to a street sign. It was laying on its side. No one took credit or explained it, but it seemed like a judgmental prank. I kept expecting someone to remove it. After a couple of days, though, several people in the neighborhood painted it in rainbow colors (It says “LOVE” on the side) and propped it upright. Now tourists (and some locals, as here) have their photos taken with it. Touché!
